Construction Accountant

Construction Accountant Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, monitor, and update project budgets, ensuring alignment with project scope, timelines, and company objectives.
- Maintain accurate records of project expenses, including labor, materials, and subcontractor costs. Report variances and forecast potential budget overruns.
- Prepare and issue accurate progress billing, ensuring that all invoices are timely and reflect the work completed. Collaborate with the project team to reconcile billing discrepancies.
- Ensure timely preparation and collection of lien waivers from subcontractors and vendors in accordance with project requirements.
- Complete and file AIA documents, including AIA billing forms and Certificates for Payment, in compliance with contract terms.
- Work closely with project managers and the finance team to ensure that project-related AR is collected promptly. Monitor outstanding invoices and assist in follow-up communications with clients for payment.
- Track and manage job costs, including subcontractor payments, equipment rentals, and material purchases, ensuring accurate allocation and proper coding.
- Perform monthly Work in Progress (WIP) accruals for percent complete jobs to recognize revenue in alignment with project progress. Ensure that revenue is accurately reflected based on the percentage of work completed and update financial records accordingly.
- Prepare and present financial reports related to project performance, profitability, and cash flow for project managers and senior leadership.
- Assist in the review of contracts and change orders, ensuring that all financial aspects comply with company policies and industry regulations.
Construction Accountant Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in property or real estate accounting.
- Proficiency in Sage Intacct or Sage 300 (preferred).
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple properties simultaneously.
