Why Adult-Only Treatments Don’t Work
The flea life cycle has four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Eggs hatch within one to ten days depending on temperature and humidity. Larvae feed on organic debris, then spin a protective cocoon and enter the pupal stage. That pupal stage is the real problem. Pupae are highly resistant to insecticides and can remain dormant for days to several months until they detect the heat or vibration of a passing host.
Once a pupa emerges, the adult flea begins feeding within minutes and starts breeding soon after. Products that only address adult fleas leave eggs, larvae, and pupae behind to restart the infestation. That’s why flea problems seem to return even after treatment.
